A quality standard for fabricators to make quality parts.
For Parts Ordered On/After 5/30/2025
General Guidelines
- If a dimension cannot be verified with current tooling, then the part on order can be no higher than Tier 0.
- Measurement tool must have 10X dimension resolution.
- Any part that does not fall under the drawing specifications must be reported to the customer through a scrap report.
- Parts may be reworked with customer approved signed drawing with part.
- If parts are outside of tolerance zone on a Tier 0 part, the customer shall be responsible for the additional rework cost.
- If parts are outside of tolerance zone on a Tier 1 through Tier 4 part, the fabricator shall be responsible for the additional rework cost.
- Implied perpendicular, parallel and concentric callouts get measured to the loosest block tolerance dimension.
- Sheet cut parts must have a minimum lead out of 0.030”.
- A lack of size of weld called out will get a size weld no less than 75% of the thickest material.
Costing Guidelines
- Costing may vary depending on shop size but must remain consistent with every customer.
- Costing of the tier system must be provided up front to the customer and/or publicly before quoting.
Fixturing Guidelines
- A fixture table must be utilized during the welding process for anything Tier 2 or above.
- The fixture table must not be outside of +/- 0.030” of flatness.
- An additional line item on the quote must be given for fixturing cost on first time orders.
- If no special fixturing is required, the additional line item shall be listed at $0.00.
Tier System
Tier 0 (+$0/part)
No formal inspection.
The fabricator checks some dimensions for internal verification.
Visual check is done before shipment.
Tier 1 (+$150/Part on Order)
100%-dimensional inspection on the first, midpoint and last part.
Each dimension gets marked by QA on print and sent with order.
A sticker gets placed on the first part.
Tier 2 (+$150/Part on Order, +$20/part)
Same as Tier 1 as well as:
Up to 5 critical dimensions per part can be inspected 100%.
Critical dimensions must be numbered on the print for identification.
Critical dimensions are logged and sent on a spreadsheet to the customer.
Tier 3 (+$150/Part on Order, +$40/part)
Same as Tier 2 as well as:
Up to 10 critical dimensions per part can be inspected 100%.
Critical dimensions must be numbered on the print for identification.
Critical dimensions are logged and sent on a spreadsheet to the customer.
Tier 4 (+$100/part)
100% print inspection on 100% of products.
Every dimension must be numbered for identification
QA marked print with every product.
Dimensions tracked and logged in spreadsheet and sent to customer.
